Cooling and heating are two of the most popular non-invasive fat removal methods. In both approaches, varying temperatures, either through heat or sub-zero temperatures, are used to eliminate fat cells. Traditional fat removal surgeries requiring invasive procedures and long recovery times have been replaced by these less invasive treatments.

Heating and Cooling for Fat Removal Does it Work

So how exactly do these concepts of cooling work for fat removal? Are there any substantial differences between the two? We sat down with Dr. Thean from Ensoul Body Medical Clinic to find out.

How does Heat affect Fat Cells?

The method of using heat energy to destroy fat cells, usually with laser lipolysis, radio frequencies, or other methods of heating selected sites on the body to target fat cells.

The advantage of non-invasive fat removal procedures is that the fat cells are destroyed evenly across the targeted area, resulting in the appearance of fat loss.

Aside from fat reduction, heat energy can also be used to treat skin laxity or loose skin. During one study, laser skin tightening and lipolysis were used to treat the lower subcutaneous layer.

It was determined that consistent heat was able to tighten skin tissue without injuring the epidermis during the healing process.

SculpSure is one such treatment that can achieve just that. Approved by the FDA in 2015 to conduct fat removal using laser lipolysis, it uses the heat energy emitted by lasers to target stubborn fat. Using the heat energy, causes the fat cells to rupture at temperatures that range from 45°C to 47°C. The broken-down fat is then safely passed from the body.

Skin laxity or loose skin can also be effectively treated with this treatment. Deep penetration of the emitted lasers into the dermal layers of the skin encourages collagen and elastin production. In turn, the skin appears tighter and firmer.

How does Cold temperature affect fat cells?

In the same way that heat targets fat cells, cooling targets areas of the body with sub-zero temperatures to eliminate unwanted fat cells.

Non-invasive fat removal procedures use the technology otherwise known as cryolipolysis to essentially freeze the fat cells.

Dr. Chiam from Ensoul Medical Clinic also said that the temperature of the affected areas is carefully controlled to kill fat cells without harming the surrounding tissues.

Probably the most talked-about non-invasive fat loss solution available, CoolSculpting can remove fat in nearly every major body part. The CoolSculpting procedure crystallizes fat cells via a process called cryolipolysis, which can then be naturally excreted from the body.

Non-Invasive Fat removal solutions are similar in many ways

No matter what procedure you choose for non-invasive fat removal, the concepts remain somewhat similar, whether you are referring to fat freezing or laser lipolysis.

Neither treatment requires anesthesia, incisions, or a long recuperation period. Following the treatment, patients are also able to resume normal activities.

Each patient’s treatment plan can be customized according to their goals and needs and may include a combination of treatments that could be used to help them achieve the sculpted contours they desire.
